Knot Talk – Steven Gunter did a power point presentation on maintenance of outboard motors.

(1)   Have an Owner’s Manual for your type of outboard motor. The manual has an outline for maintenance.

(2)   Find your serial number on your motor and record it for ID of motor.

(3)   Motor oil change.  Look at your manual and see recommended oil changes. Even if you don’t use your motor a lot, it is important to still do recommended oil changes.

(4)   Run your motor hard every so often to keep it clean and run gunk out of it.

(5)   Change your impeller as recommended.

(6)   Replace spark plugs (keep a spare on boat along with the correct spark plugs wrench).

(7)   Finally, You tube is a great resource to find “how to do” stuff

(8)   Ed Combs brought up fuel issues with outboards and a spirited discussion ensued
