Commodore Chris Behnke

The meeting was called to order at 6:59 p.m.

A motion was made by Amy Kuhnel to waive the reading of the minutes. It was seconded by Ben Maravich  and the motion was passed.

There were no new guests attending the meeting.

Chris Behneke has created a draft calendar for 2026. He encouraged us to review it and provide him with any suggestions. January through March events are on the FB page.

Vice Commodore Steve Trofemuk

The Fall Colors Cruise was discussed as we had issues with the Park Rangers this past October. We will try to not be there around Halloween which could have been the problem. We will also be looking at other ideas.

Racing has resumed. We had 8 boats participate in the first race. The wind was light so it was agreed to just do one rotation of the race. Suzzane and Brian won the first two races then Andy won the third.

We discussed the St. Patrick’s Day party on March 14, 2026. It was decided to keep the party at an Irish restaurant.

The St. Thomas Cruise which is April 24 – 26, 2026 was discussed. Originally, this race was “from one end of the lake to the other” event. The original intent was to navigate the lake under sail. We like to meet Friday evening at Victoria’s, have dinner, sit around and then sail the lake the next morning. The direction we sail is based on the wind.

Fleet Captain Bruce Lane

Bruce created a flyer about South Winds Sailing Club. It came out very nice. Mike McKay put a QR code on the flyer. A copy has been hung up in the office and at the bath house. Hopefully we will get new members this next year.

Bruce went over Frostbite Race #1.  Frostbite Race 2 will be January 17, 2026 with the skippers meeting at 12:00 p.m.

A discussion was held on the race committee process.  Tim is going to do a “knot talk” next meeting and review race procedures and rules, handicaps, etc.

Purser Brian Kuhnel

There is a balance of $XXXXX. 10 members have paid their dues for 2026.  Last year we had 32 members.

Commodore Chris:

Chris opened up for discussion Crew Training and safety on a boat. When you have someone crewing on your boat, do some cross training (i.e. how to start the motor, how to properly call for help on the radio, location of First Aid Kit on board). Wearing a whistle on your life jacket – 3 whistle blasts is a call for help. There will be more “knot talks” this year that may go into this further.
