Minutes from meeting: August 13, 2026

The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m. A motion was made by Amy Kuhnel and seconded by Steve Trofemuk to not read the Minutes of the last meeting. The motion was passed. We had a couple who sailed in the Virgin Islands attend the meeting for the first time. Beverly and Steven. They are considering joining the club and sailing with us.
Friday, July 10th, a group of eight sailboats gathered to remember Brian McBrayer who passed away in December 2025. A plaque saying “Brian McBrayer’s Cove” was nailed to a tree in the cove he spent many nights aboard.
Maryland School of Sailing and Seamanship is having a Zoom chat Tuesday, September 8th at 7:00 p.m. EDT. “Crew Overboard Updates” on what has changed and what is the same from their YouTube video circa 2011.
Harbor Town/Victoria Harbor are hosting a customer appreciation party, Saturday, September 19th, 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Officers for 2027 – Please be thinking about who would like to serve as an officer in the Club. Elections are in September and elections will be held at the September meeting.

Steve mentioned that the “Sunset Cruises” are still on Thursdays. Those who want to take a mental health evening after work is invited to enjoy lake sunsets. Some leave at 5:00 p.m. to sail and others later. No set time.
Next Raft Up is August 15 at the AYC Cove meeting at 5:00 p.m. The Half Yard race is the same day.
There are two full moon Raft Ups coming up. Good opportunity for an overnight stay on board your boat. Saturday, August 29th And Saturday, September 26th.
The final picnic (Labor Day) in 2026 is Saturday, September 5th at 5:00 p.m. Possibly a low country boil. This date is on the SWSC Facebook page under “Events”.
The Fall Colors Cruise is Friday, October 23rd to Sunday, October 25th. This date is also on the SWSC Facebook page under “Events”. The first night will be at Red Top Mountain but we are not to get there to tie up until after 5:00 p.m. More details will be forthcoming before the date.
Commodore’s Ball is Saturday, November 7 at 6:00 p.m. There will be a request for assistance in setting up and tearing down as the date gets closer.

The Half Yard Race was moved from August 8th to the 15th due to a Poker Run happening on the lake. Summer Race #4 held on July 11th had 3 boats competing. Two races were completed before an oncoming storm chased them off the race course. Tim Wisner came in first both races with Mike McKay coming in second.
Upcoming Fall Race #1 will be August 22nd. Meeting at 12:00 p.m..

Knot Talk:
Steve Trofemuk spoke about on board entertainment when staying on your boat. There are board games and card games to play. Always time to enjoy food and drinks and reading a good book.
New business. Lake Alatoona is having a cleanup day October 3, 2026. They are looking for a “John Boat” that can be used to haul trash.
Old business: None.
Sea Scouts – Gary Holcomb. Not in attendance.
