Chris Behnke spoke about how, on August 10th, his fuel line connector broke on his motor requiring him to sail his boat into the marina and into his slip. He was pleased to say that he and Brian were able to sail the boat in without any mishaps. Andy Kohler from the club had mentioned that in a situation like this, the carburetor should still have fuel in it for a few minutes. Sail up to fuel dock or near your slip, run the motor to assist getting into your slip. A good thing to check on your boat if you unplug your fuel hose and see how many minutes it runs before stopping.

Knot Talk - Steve Trofemuk did the Knot Talk on Roller Furling. A boat has either “hank ons” or a roller furling which rolls the jib or genoa sail around its forestay using a furling line. . Steve spoke about the Schaefer Jib Furling System which he has on his boat. Other boats use a CDI Furler. A couple members in the club mentioned that when you reduce your sail area using a furling to reef, it causes your sail to “blow out” or “stretch”. Something to look into as the website for the rolling furling mentions the purpose of the furling is to reduce the amount of sail area to be adjusted by winding or unwinding the furling line. Steve gave homework as follows:
1. Identify the bottom swivel, top swivel and feeder on your furler.
2. Learn how to put the sail on and take the sail off.
3. Practice reefing using the furler. Can you get the balance to the sails.
4. Practice sailing with just the headsail.. How does your boat react?
Purser Brian Kuhnel
Brian gave a financial report that we currently have a balance of $XXXXXXX
There are still some members who have not paid their dues. They will be taken off the invite list.
